In the last week on the 3rd and 4th of Feb 2018 former LTC member Osgar O’Hoisin made his debut in the Davis Cup men’s doubles with Sam Bothwell against Denmark and recorded a very competitive 4-6 4-6 score in their match. This is a fantastic achievement for a former club member and also for Osgar’s coach, LTC Director of Tennis, Rob Shulver – well done to both Osgar & Rob.

Launch Of Leopardstown Bridge Club

We held a series of Bridge lessons for beginners from October to December 2017. Carol Ann Cummins (an international player and teacher) undertook 28 novices and held the lessons over 6 Friday evenings. Interspersed with that we had 6 practice evenings. That culminated in the competition where the results are listed below.

We are now into our second group of 6 lessons continuing into March.

To date we have had almost 40 people take part in one capacity or another. It has been an overwhelming success.

Congratulations to Leopardstown 1 Team for winning class 3 Floodlight League finals.

Yesterday evening LTC 1 played the finals against Celbridge 1 at Lansdowne Tennis Club. A rematch for class 4 Floodlight League finals 2015 won by Celbridge.

Fast4 Doubles Wooden Spoon Tournament

Yesterday evening the club held its first men’s Fast4 Doubles Tournament with wooden spoons as main prizes.

The atmosphere and the weather were great, and the game pace high. Matches were player without power play (see rules) and lesson learned that playing let on serve is very counter-intuitive and unwelcome.

Congratulations to Michael Hurley and Brian Meade who won all the matches.

(unfortunately Brian had to leave before the prize giving ceremony, so Michael holding both trophies)
